There’s no doubting the power of music after watching this video:
Music & Memory
Meet Henry. Henry has Alzheimer’s and hadn’t said words to anyone in years. He can’t recognize his daughter either. But after hearing some of his favorite music, he comes alive with words and emotion.
Henry is part of a program by non-profit organization Music & Memory. The organization helps people like Henry relive their past, even if only temporarily through the use of music. You can give to their cause and help more people on their donation page.
Alive Inside
The clip above is excerpt from the upcoming documentary film Alive Inside which will showcase more examples of music’s effect on the elderly and memories. Check their site and stay updated on the progress of the film.
As DJs we obviously believe in the ability of music to control memory and emotion, that’s one of the factors that helps us control the crowds weekend after weekend. Good to see some research to support it.
