Recently I started using Gmail plugin Boomerang to make my email inbox a bit more powerful. Â You see, boomerang allows me to do a couple of things that I’ve always needed my email to do, namely delayed sending and re-sending to my inbox.
One of the things that has always been frustrating to me is sending a reply to a booking inquiry and not hearing back from the person making the inquiry. Â If I was on top of my network the way I should be then I would email a followup to that person. Â But who can keep track these days especially with all the email blasts that are constantly being pushed to our inboxes? Â Now I don’t have to remember to do it because Boomerang includes a feature that will send the original message back to your inbox if you don’t get a reply. Â It’s like a constant reminder for follow up!
It also allows me to seem more like a human and less like a vampire by hiding behind delayed sending. Â I type most of my email very late at night, sometimes after gigs. Â Depending on who I’m sending the messages to I may not want a 4am timestamp on the email. Â This comes in handy especially if you’re sending email to other DJs who wake up late. Â By the time your DJ friend wakes up at 1-2pm their email inbox is cluttered and they are probably doing a bulk delete section or only looking for the THE most important emails. Â You can make sure you skip the clutter by delaying your sending until the next afternoon, so it arrives after they are awake. Â Zing!
In a way, boomerang is like having an assistant for my inbox and has quickly become a must have tool for me. Â Here’s a video so you can see it in action:
